Worst App Ever

This app is horrible!! Ive had it for a week and am unable to either import my account info directly from my banking website or from a downloaded statement. It doesnt matter which file type you use it wont open it. Customer Service is worse than useless as they sent an automated message saying they had problems with the new apple update and would contact me the next day……… 5 days ago…… still nothing! deleted app and wasted $20.

Works great. Love it

I’ve been using this app for two years now and it does exactly what I want. I’m able to track expenses, income, set up a budget, organize my accounts, and download data from my bank and credit cards. I love that I am able to see the budget amount on my iPhone.

It’s ok

1. Unable to Sync to phone 2. Unable to Rename Sub-Category 3. Unable to Add Reacuring Income to an earlier date.

Great budget tool

Easy to learn how to use and very effective. Worth every penny. Customer support answered and helped me in a days time.

Cannot open

I have used this app for over 1 year and have loved it; however, with the newest version, everytime I try to open the app I get a problem report stating "HomeBudget quit unexpectedly". I hope this gets fixed soon.

Endless errors...

Loved this app before the update. Now I can’t do anything on it. It won’t sync across devices and will hardly stay open for more than a minute before unexpectdily quitting!

I Thought I Was Alone

I recently removed Mavericks and went back to Snow Leopard due to slow-down issues on my 5-year old MacBook Pro. When I reinstalled HomeBudget and tried to launch it crashed. I thought it was a compatibility issue, but sure enough requirements state 10.6.6 and newer. Now that I see other long time users that are having issues, so I know it isnt something I did. Support on the publishers website is lacking with only a web form available to enter your name and email and trust that you will get a timely response. I can only hope that Anishu cares about their ratings and does something to rectify the issue.

I can’t believe I spent money on this..

This software would be and could be good, but where is iCloud support?? I am currently working in China, and your cloud sync server is being blocked by the Chinese government hence there’s no way for me to use family sync without using VPN on all my devices at the same time.. it is really a pain in the XXX to sync my data across my devices.. and not to say that i only needed the software for myself.. therefore icloud would be the best way to do it... and also, what’s with the possibility to charge for family sync in the future as stated in the “family sync manual”??? I hope thats not the reason why iCloud is not supported..

Needs an update

I like a lot of things about this app. But it could use a facelift. The UI is a little old and it would be nice to see it in line with what you guys have done to the iOS version of this app. As for the sync, it has been working just fine for me.

Needs An Update

I enjoy this app very much and I use it everyday. I find it very simple to use but I do hope that the developers add a few more banking/finance features. It also needs a major face-lift, if it could match the mobile app then that would be great. But overall, I like this app and I use it everyday. There are definitely some updates needed and I hope they do it soon.

Huge Disappointment

I used the iPhone version of this app for a little over a year and loved it. I bought this as soon as it came out, and it seems with each update something new breaks. I can’t import from my credit cards, my reoccuring expenses and transfers post 3 or 4 times each, and there are so many unnecessary screens. Has potential, but this is just a poor attempt. Hasn’t been updated in almost a year. I’d say it’s dead in the water at this point.

Please Fix Bugs

Overall when it works it’s a really great app. Syncs well with HomeBudget on both my iPhone and iPad. Everything works well until you go to pay a bill, that’s when everything get’s all out of wack. My balances get’s thrown off because of a bug in the system. I have made several attempts to the developer but to no avail. Once they fix the bugs I would be more than happy to give it 5 stars. Until then, please save your money.

Total waste of money

One of my bank institutions would not allow this software and it is not currently compatible with brokerage accounts.

Horrible Update

The new category items look plain and boring, please make the previous category items available for download.

This is great tool

I love homebudget and own the app on iOS and mac. it’s not a slick super-automated ultra-cute app. it’s a great tool that does what it is supposed to and does it really well. i want an app that gives me the most flexibility to assign categories, subcategories, subdivide expenses, accounts, payees, and make it easy to export the data to a common, widely adopted format where I can use it in another program. i’ve bought a dozen other expense apps like this one and none had the power and flexibility that this app has. and the sync function works perfectly to keep the database updated across all your devices. the iOS version just got a nice visual update and I hope that makes its way to the mac app. The app would benefit from some additional keyboard shortcuts (e.g. to generate a new expense entry), but if you want to be in cotrol of your expenses and want a simple clean interface to it, this app is great. if you feel nervous about giving an app passwords to your financial institutitons and want a way to log your expenses without being sold financial services etc, this is the best app for this kind of application that i’ve found anywhere. thatnk you Anishu for this great tool and for continuing to maintain it over the years! by far the best thing about this app is that you can export into a format that can be read by any spreadsheet tool. this means you can easily export the data, migrate the data, etc, etc. Future proofing was really important for me and this software delivers on that update for version 3.0.5: great new flatter icons made it over from the iOS version - nice and welcome addition! thanks!

never worked

I liked the phone app but thought it would be easier to use on the laptop.....Wrong! It nover opened up, not even once. A complete wast of $20

It Could be Great except...

This program is easy to use and is simplistic in design, which I love. I just don’t like the way it makes you reconcile, its my second month using the program and so I sat down to reconcile my credit card and it took me an hour and about half of bag of salt water taffy to figure out that the transactions made previous to the last time I reconciled but hadn’t been reconciled was where the difference in the amount the program was telling me I was reconciling and the amount I really was reconciling. This program could be great if it had a real reconciling feature to it!

ok

There are some things that make this app really nice. It is organized well and organized simply. However. you have to go through to much hassle to change your budget. If you want to delete a budget you have to delete the sub categories, if you have expenses in those categories you have to delete the expenses. It is easier to do a full reset but then you have to set up your account again. This is a major downfall!!! and thus the app is only 3 stars.

Need new features !!!!

I think you should add more options in the report group. For example, the reports could work in different way. It should be possible to create individual reports for each one of the accounts. The main reason that i say this is because some times you need to get a report of only one of the accounts and it get complicated because the report is defined by a period of time and not for de “wallet expense”.

Everything I needed except a more automated reconciliation process

After twelve years of marriage, I was finally thinking that perhaps I now could replace my paper ledgers for my checking and savings accounts. With HomeBudget, I found for a way to have both of us to enter expenses on my Mac or our iPhones or iPads and have them synchronize. For security reasons, I did not want the mobile devices connected to the bank accounts, so I wanted to import OFX files and any other transactions manually. HomeBudget provides those features with a simple interface for entering expenses. If you do not want to enter your expenses manually, then you can import an OFX file and convert them into an expenses. Also, since you need to assign a budget category for each expense, you can see where your money is being spent. Reconciliation still requires manually checking for incorrectly entered expenses, forgotten expenses, and expenses not yet cleared. HomeBudget allows an easy entry of a detected forgotten transaction, but the other steps still seem to be manual. I manually compare unreconciled expenses on my iPad against the latest OFX import on my Mac. When processing imported OFX transactions one-by-one, I think that adding a selection to reconcile what HomeBudget proposes as an already existing expense would be very helpful.
